Lynn Rotin started her career as a photographer for choreographers and independent theater in Toronto. After moving to Halifax in 1989 she decided to enroll at NSCAD has been a practising artist since. She has received grants from the Canada Council, and her work is collected by the Nova Scotia Art Bank. Her drawings and paintings on paper use mixed media, building on layers of mark making.
Visual Arts Nova Scotia is delighted to present an artist talk by visiting artist Jean-René Leblanc of Calgary, AB, in collaboration with Viewpoint Gallery and the NSCC Truro’s 14th annual Animediafest. Taking place Friday, March 6th, from 3:30-5:00pm at the NSCC Truro’s McCarthy Hall, this free artist talk is offered as part of Visual Arts Nova Scotia’s En Route Artist Talk Series.
Dartmouth artist and VANS mentor Wilma Needham exhibits a photocollage series with accompanying sculptural objects which respond to challenges of parenting, on view in the corridor gallery February 5 – 26, 2015.
Sarah Saunders will give an artist talk at the Antigonish Town & County Library, Tuesday October 21 at 7pm in collaboration with ASAP Artist Run Centre. Saunders is visiting Nova Scotia for her exhibition Between Presence and Absence at ARTsPLACE Artist-run Centre in Annapolis Royal, on view until October 19, 2014.
Henri Fabergé will give a presentation exploring the social rules, rituals, and hierarchal structures we inherit at the Lunenburg School of the Arts in Lunenburg, NS, Monday October 20th at 7pm. Fabergé is visiting Nova Scotia as a Nocturne Anchor Project artist and presenting work with Eyelevel Gallery.

Visual Arts Nova Scotia presents an artist talk by visiting artist Léopold L. Foulem of Montreal, QC, in collaboration with Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery, at Le Trécarré Gallery in Church Point, NS. / Visual Arts Nova Scotia en collaboration avec la Galerie d’art de l’Université Saint-Mary’s présente un Bavard’Art à la Galerie Le Trécarré à Pointe-de-l’Église, N.É. L’artiste invité, le Montréalais, Leopold L. Foulem.
Suzanne Gauthier was born in Lorette Manitoba and studied and taught at the University of Manitoba (BFA Honours 1969). In 1989 she relocated to Halifax to teach full time at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her work is based in drawing, printmaking and collage, and has recently been engaged in photographs of moving water. See her studio exhibition Acquainted with Light, October 16-31, as part of Photopolis.
Germaine Koh artist talk at ARTsPLACE

Germaine Koh will give a presentation of her conceptually-generated work, concerned with the significance of everyday actions, familiar objects and common places at ARTsPLACE in Annpolis Royal, Saturday October 11 at 1pm. She is visiting Nova Scotia to present her work as part of the exhibition (im)mobile presented by the Dalhousie Art Gallery and the Centre for Art Tapes in partnership with White Frame.
Taking place on Sunday, October 5th at 1:00pm at Acadia University Art Gallery in Wolfville, ceramicist Marc Courtemanche will speak about his work with sculpture and installation, using clay as if it were wood.
My work is rooted in questions of spirituality and morality. Compositions are calculated, controlled and attempt to reach perfection. They are resolved. Conflict has been removed. They are intended to act as a counterpoint to our chaotic society and the lack of control I have as an individual struggling with my place.
Emerging artists Angela Glanzmann, Kate Walchuk and Stephanie Yee have been individually paired with established artists and mentors: Barbara Lounder, Eryn Foster and Wilma Needham.
Portia White award winning visual artist and arts advocate, Charlotte Wilson-Hammond exhibits a series of mixed media works reflecting on marsh landscapes from an aerial perspective, on view July 7 – 29.
2013-14 Mentorship Program Exhibition

Emerging artists in this year’s program present work questioning notions of time and space, definitions of femininity, and the relationship between human mark making and architecture. On view at the Craig Gallery June 25 – July 26.
Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) releases the 9th annual call for applications for the VANS Mentorship Program. The VANS Mentorship Program pairs established artists with emerging artists to take part in a ten-month mentorship from September to June.

Apprentices this year have created works investigating dominant forms of knowledge, the transference of power, and wilderness as refuge. Highlighting the talents of emerging artists Judy Arsenault, Wes Johnston, and Christine Waugh the exhibition will also include work from their individual mentors Janice Leonard, Ilan Sandler, and Steve Higgins.
