“Passages” by Natan Nevo

Longtime VANS member Natan Nevo’s acrylic paintings are in the Corridor Gallery this month. With its unfailingly bright colours Nevo’s work is painted in his signature modern, geometric style. Included in this exhibition is his Life series, which chronicles the stages in a life. See Nevo’s exhibition, Passages, in the Corridor Gallery October 2 – 30.

Nevo’s Artist Statement:
I paint in an abstract style, which I call “The New Modern Geometric Style”. This is a style of painting with caricature and satirical meanings, depicting human eccentricities in real life’s complex situations by means of geometric configurations. My often complex, though sometimes simple drawings express hidden ideas and themes. My colour choices are meant to communicate the feelings of an outsider looking in, to convey symbolic meanings. Quite often, the colours depict my mood and state of mind.

Natan Nevo was born in Warsaw, Poland, and is a Holocaust survivor. He started painting seriously after his retirement in 1999, from teaching at university. He paints landscapes of Europe, the Middle East and North America, mainly in acrylic paint. Learn more about Nevo and his memories by reading the book, Natan Nevo: an Autobiography published in 2002 and on his website art-nevo.com.
