ART RECESS is a break, a change, time to play, to have fun – just like regular recess! You can even have a snack too, if you’d like. At VANS, we’ve been creating new space for art and engagement with artists in every way we can. ART RECESS is a collection of short, accessible workshops that can be delivered online at times that work for teachers in the school year, or for parents and other caregivers in the summertime! VANS has commissioned 9 artists to create ART RECESS workshops and these videos are available now to educators, students and parents through VANS’ YouTube channel.

ART RECESS is another way to connect students and teachers in NS schools with professional artists. Part of the PAINTS (Professional Artists In the Schools) Program, these workshops are made to be quick – 15-20 minutes – and use materials that most people would have around the house. These can happen when students are in school, or if they’re at home due to COVID- 19 restrictions, or summer! ART RECESS workshops will remain available for free to any school-age children in NS from now until the end of the 2022 school year. Make time to do them all!
