Advocate for budgeting for the arts

Help artists in 2021 by writing your MLA and the Finance and Treasury Board at budget@novascotia.ca before December 31.  We need your voice to ensure the arts are a priority in the upcoming budget and recovery funds:

Dear (Your MLA’s Name),

Recognizing that culture is an integral part of Nova Scotian life, that creative activities can support both individual and community wellbeing, and that culture supports the livelihoods of so many Nova Scotians, we ask that you prioritize the following in the upcoming 2021-22 Budget:

  • Increase Core Mandate Support for Cultural Organisations through the Department of Communities Culture and Heritage
  • Prioritise Funds for Arts and Cultural Organisations to Offer Online Arts Programming
  • Increase Funding for Artist-Led Projects and Cultural Programming

2020 has been especially hard for artists, whose livelihoods are already at the margins. This year we’ve also learned just how vital culture is to sustaining us in hard times: how many shows, songs, podcasts, texts, and images of hope have bolstered us in this crisis. Art helps us to think of new approaches in an unknowable future. Please prioritize support for the arts in Nova Scotia.
