Talks With Sweet

Erin Jaeger-Freeborn

August 6 – 29, 2014

Emerging Halifax based artist Erin Jaeger-Freeborn exhibits a series of tactile landscapes narrating the pastimes of suburban life in the corridor gallery from August 6 – 29.

I am interested in creating works that exhibit a sense of narrative.  Though my work is rarely pictorial or representative I always incorporate the idea of passing time. In Talks With Sweet some pieces refer to the pass times and concerns of parents.  Others examine childish impulses or fascinations.   My pallets, as well as, the materials used were inspired by domesticity and suburban life.  I found myself drawn to pale pastels and off whites, commonplace objects and vinyl.  I used these materials to create complex visual and tactile landscapes.  Some pieces exude explosive chaotic narratives while others speak to patience and habit.  Some pieces embody a relaxed sensual story, while others promise anticipation.

Erin is an artist living and working in Halifax, NS.  Originally from Calgary Erin moved to Halifax and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University.  After completing her degree in 2011 Erin Jaeger-Freeborn has continued to work in Halifax showing her work at small venues in and around the city.  Erin has been involved in many group shows in Calgary, as well as Halifax including most recently a large instillation in Bridgewater.  She had solo shows at the Port Loggia, The Mym and Plan B in Nova Scotia, as well as, at ACAD in Calgary.  Erin recently participated in a group residency in Upper Economy and led an art facilitation with Tradeschool in Toronto.
