This exhibition is a series of portraits of the people that artist kimmerT met while on residency in Parrsboro in September 2017. The first in the series were completed during the residency and are a study of realism and abstract realism. These are followed by studio works that start with a painting freely created without any visual guides, which became the style for the rest of the series of portraits. People of Parrsboro is in the Corridor Gallery until February 27.

Of the work, the artist states:
During my time as Artist-in-Residence in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia I had the opportunity to interact with locals and tourists. The gallery space was located on the main street, and my door was open to the public. Those that had time stayed and discussed painting and life philosophy. It was a wonderful experience and I met some wonderful people. I was inspired to capture Parrsboro through its people, and a series of portraits. I started with a few realistic paintings and moved onto a more abstract/realism style.

At the age of 5, kimmerT’s family moved from a small fishing village in rural Nova Scotia to Halifax. She grew up as a city kid, graduated high school and studied at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. kimmerT is a drifter who has spent 22 years traveling and living throughout Canada before settling back home in a small community by the ocean. As an artist, she is about having the courage to be true to herself, studying, and embracing personal and intellectual growth.

Located inside the Visual Arts Nova Scotia office at the Halifax Seaport since 2000, the Corridor Gallery is complimented by a historical legacy of Nova Scotia culture, simple yet modern architectural elements and an array of current cultural activity in the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia office. The Corridor Gallery is located at 1113 Marginal Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia and is open Monday through Friday, 9:30am – 5pm.
