Session 1: Alana will guide students through the process of making a clay pot using the pinch method. Pots can then be embellished by adding cut out shapes or handles. Alana will also demonstrate how to make your pinch pot taller by adding coils.
Session 2: Students will decorate their pots with underglaze (if a kiln is available) or acrylic paint (if using air dry clay instead of a kiln).
This workshop will require a few basic clay tools:
– knives or pin tools for cutting clay
– a few rolling pins
– paint brushes
– small containers for water
– paper plates for building on
About the artist - Alana Lea Wilson
Alana Lea Wilson completed her MFA at Pennwest Edinboro University and her BFA at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She makes colourful, ceramic work for the home under the name builderburner ceramics. She’s done residencies in Canada, Australia, and the U.S. and spent two years living in Mexico, learning Spanish. In 2020 she received a Create and Explore grant from the Canada Council for the Arts and in 2023 she received a Professional Development grant from Arts Nova Scotia. Her work explores ideas around memory and nostalgia, longing and belonging, and her ongoing search for a home. Currently she lives in New Waterford, NS.
