In this workshop we will imagine (design) and create (construct and paint) our very own imaginative creature! This project can be adapted to any animal, monster, character and more- we can discuss your specific ideas and requests.
Day 1: on a piece of paper or in a sketchbook, we will design our own creatures. This includes colour choices and patterns. This part is important, as we will return to this idea later when we paint our final creatures.
Then using cardboard we will cut our shapes and add wire legs. A hot glue gun is needed to attach the legs. Depending on the thickness of the cardboard and the skill level of the students, some assistance may be required for the cutting.
The following step is to use white tissue paper with white glue to cover the surface. When dry, this creates a nice hard surface for painting.
The final step is to hot glue the creature to a cardboard stand.
Day 2: Using acrylic or craft paint and a variety of different sized paint brushes, we will paint our creatures and the stand that they are on. The creative options for this are endless. We will discuss the idea of looking at our original sketches, how adding patterns and details can make our work more interesting.
Once these creatures are finished we will give our creations a title or name and have a mini “art show” where we can view everyone’s
work.
