Fantasy creatures exist in books, movies and imaginations. Why is that? What’s the deal with werewolves, faeries or sea monsters? What is Cryptozoology?
A vivid imagination and some basic biology is all one needs to create a new crazy new critter. We see them all the time in the movies and gaming. There are people whose job title is Creature Designer – – what if that was your job?
We’ll look at some famous fantasy creatures and talk about their origin stories. We’ll do some design sketches and make a small model.
Materials include wood, cardboard, paper, paint, wire, and various fasteners.
About the artist - Peter Gamble
Peter is a visual artist based in Shad Bay, Nova Scotia since 2002. Originally from Toronto, he’s an alumnus of Queen’s University Life Sciences and Dalhousie University Architecture. Peter has been designing and building things, big and small, for decades and continues to draw great inspiration from the natural and built environment. He uses drawing, painting and sculpture as a communication tool for his architectural work as well as an outlet for personal exploration and expression. He is an accomplished woodworker, illustrator, plein-air painter and a juried member of Craft Nova Scotia.
