Draw and Stitch, Beginner Embroidery Art

Timeframe: 3 hours, with breaks

Learn some basic embroidery stitches while having fun! This workshop will consist of three parts:

– a short lesson where students will learn some beginner-friendly embroidery stitches, with the option for older students of adding intermediate stitches too. With time to practice.

– Students will then draw and colour a picture on their fabric using crayons or pencil crayons (subject matter can be suggested based on curriculum or open).

– And finally, students will then embellish their drawings with the embroidery stitches learned in the lesson.

About the artist - Steph Kincade

Steph is a trans/non-binary multidisciplinary artist focused on sculptural embroidery and fibre art, performing arts and curating. Much of their skills are self taught, though specific instructors have been sought out over the last few years, from England to Italy to Australia. Recent visual art includes MicroWorlds, a sculptural hand embroidery collection exploring the small and microscopic, Stranglehold, a small collection of wearable art pieces inspired by toxic algae blooms, and Invasive, a curated group exhibition. Steph has done residencies at the Fredericton Botanic Garden as well as with the New Brunswick Museum. They have shown their work in galleries in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. Their work can be found in private collections as well as the permanent collections of the New Brunswick Museum and the Nova Scotia Art Bank.
