Visual Arts Nova Scotia is delighted to present an artist talk by visiting artist Nicole Pietrantoni from Washington, USA, in collaboration with the Anna Leonowens Gallery and the Cape Breton University Art Gallery. Taking place Thursday July 9th, 5:30pm at the Cooperative Study Club, Suite 104 of the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation in Sydney, NS, this free artist talk is offered as part of Visual Arts Nova Scotia’s En Route Artist Talk Series.
Pietrantoni is visiting Nova Scotia as a summer artist in residence at NSCAD University and will present an exhibition of her work at the Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax, July 15 – 25, with an opening reception on July 14 from 5:30-7pm.
Nicole Pietrantoni’s artwork explores the complex relationship between human beings and nature via installations, artists’ books, and works on paper. She is the recipient of numerous awards including a Fulbright to Iceland, a Leifur Eiríksson Foundation Grant, a Larry Sommers Printmaking Fellowship, and the Manifest Prize. She has been invited to participate in artist residencies at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Purple Word Center for Book and Paper Arts, Venice Printmaking Studio, and SIM Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland. Nicole received her MFA and MA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa and her BS in Human and Organizational Development and Art History from Vanderbilt University. Since 2012, Nicole has been an Assistant Professor of Art at Whitman College where she teaches printmaking and book arts.
Visual Arts Nova Scotia is partnering with art galleries across the province to facilitate an exchange of national and international artists. The En Route Artist Talk Series aims to enhance existing programming and broaden contemporary art conversations.
