Halifax based emerging artist and recent grad Colin Canary exhibits a series of brightly coloured abstract paintings exploring spatial cues. Expanding on his intentions with the work, Canary describes the work:

Synthetic shards simulate their reflecting counterparts while emanating an individual presence through materiality. Through the intuitive consideration of form and colour the simplified yet convoluted compositions become an abstract materialization of the representational dimension, shaping spatial cues alluding to portrayal of perspective and depth. Allegorical repetitions utilize chance and chaos to disseminate expressions on structure and equilibrium in painting.

Born and raised in Halifax, Colin Canary is known for his bright acrylic paintings involving repetitive hard edged lines and formalist compositions exploding with colour. As a recent graduate with a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design his work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions and conventions across Canada along with his first solo exhibition at the Anna Leonowens Gallery titled, “Lines, Fragments and Tensions – Opposites, Variables and Rhetoric”.

Located inside the Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) office at the Halifax Seaport, since 2000, the Corridor Gallery is complimented by a historical legacy of Nova Scotia culture, simple yet modern architectural elements and an array of current cultural activity in the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia office. The Corridor Gallery is located at 1113 Marginal Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia and is open Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm.
