Call for Volunteers: VANS Standing Committees
Help shape the future of Visual Arts Nova Scotia by submitting an expression of interest to join one of our committees
Deadline: Monday, January 30, 2023, 11:59pm AST
Committee volunteers help shape how our programs work, our application processes, and selection committee. These volunteers are essential to help us create a future where a career as an artist is accessible, sustainable, and recognized as an integral part of our communities. They oversee, support, and make recommendations on our outreach, programming, fundraising, editorial, governance, and policies. We are currently recruiting for all standing committees:
- Membership & Engagement
- Programming
- Fundraising & Finance
- Governance & Nomination
- Artist Emergency Fund
- Visual Arts News Editorial

Committees take strategic priority direction from our Board of Directors and are supported by a staff member to achieve their goals. Generally, committees meet four times a year via zoom in October, December, February, and April, with some committees choosing to meet in July to implement their initiatives with a minimum commitment of 8 hours annually, and not usually exceeding 12 hours. Committee members will be reimbursed for required travel and public transit when meeting in person, and up to $20 for meals, and $15 per hour for childcare for individuals with children under 12 when meeting for longer than an hour in accordance with our expenses policy.
We prioritize applications from those who identify as Indigenous, Black, Persons of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, and/or Persons with Disabilities. If we can support you in applying or participating on a committee, or if you have any concerns please reach out to our Executive Director, Benny Welter-Nolan by email at director@visualarts.ns.ca.
Submit your interest via our google form or your preferred method (email, audio, video, phone, Zoom, etc.) contact us for questions and assistance in submitting alternate expressions of interest. Briefly tell us about yourself and why you’d like to join.
