Artist Statement

I am a Master Sculptor and Fine Arts Teacher working mainly in the field of creating three-dimensional art using a variety of materials and techniques, with a breadth of experience across the full spectrum from classical to abstract subjects.
My main motivation is to be a better artist and a better person, and I feel like I start each new day as a complete beginner. I remain true to the classical style from my schooling in Sofia in the 1980s, and I try to apply an elegant and complex approach to my subjects, which can be seen in the intentional honesty of my work.

This elegant and classical approach to my subjects feels more open and honest to me, as I believe it can be used as a vehicle to portray a truer rendition of the composition. That is not to decry more modern works, as I do not believe there is a ‘right’ and a ‘wrong’ way to express yourself, only that a means of expression is a cultural choice, asserted by each individual artist in their specific context and moment in time. This choice and assertion provide the cornerstone of the freedom of expression and creativity wherein lie true joy, and it is this mission that I embrace fully – the mission of the artist to enrich people’s lives and make them happy.
