Simardeep Hundal
ARTIST STATEMENT
Mostly self-taught, I make paintings in oil, which I prefer over other mediums because they give me the flexibility and time to play and create expressions the way I want still maintaining the vibrancy of colors. The complexity of the human mind has always intrigued me and is my favorite subject. I am a strong believer in the strength of human character and try to express the invincible human spirit through my paintings.
I suffered emotional numbness after losing my only teenage son and struggled to feel joy. Every completed painting gives me a reason to smile. My paintings tell the stories of the human spirit. I want my paintings to be meaningful and spread the message of kindness, tolerance, diversity, oneness, fairness, strength, determination and perseverance.
One part of me is a factual person who believes in the measured accuracy and logic and the second half is an artist who believes in emotions, feelings and free flow of ideas. My paintings are a testament to a scientific brain’s collaboration with art.
I am new and naive in the art world but hoping to make it my home.
