Sara Harley
Artist Statement
I have been documenting life for decades with my camera, always with a focus on the natural world. A few years ago I started using my photographic library to create composited images. I create poetic landscapes that exist in my mind using elements from several different images to layer and blend, and create a final piece that is based in reality, but doesn't really exist. Sometimes combined with verse, I create visual stories that touch on basic and universal emotions. Much of my work features birds and trees, two elements that I adopted as my personal symbols after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010.
