Roy

Artist Statement

Roy’s practice examines the quiet structures that shape human life through the presence of ordinary objects. In the ongoing Object Series, familiar items are treated as carriers of memory, routine, and expectation. These objects are not depicted for their aesthetic value, but for their ability to hold the traces of repeated use. Through careful observation and restrained composition, the work considers how identity and responsibility become embedded in things that are handled every day yet rarely noticed.

The paintings often combine precise realism with subtle spatial distortion and reduced color fields, creating a visual tension between stability and unease. This approach reflects an interest in how individuals adapt to systems that appear ordinary, but quietly shape behavior, roles, and emotional weight over time.

Rather than presenting narrative scenes, the work focuses on structure. how repetition creates familiarity, how familiarity becomes obligation, and how ordinary environments begin to carry psychological weight. By isolating objects from their usual context, the practice invites the viewer to reconsider what feels normal, and to observe the hidden pressure within everyday life.
