Artist Statement

A lifelong resident of Nova Scotia; artist R. J. Marchand is inspired by the natural world of his native province and beyond. For thirty years he has been working almost exclusively in acrylics and watercolours. His paintings exhibit an eclectic range of influences including impressionist painters, Japanese print makers, wildlife artist Robert Bateman, and fantasy landscape artist Roger Dean. His work, which combines both abstraction and realism, always reflects the natural world and often includes representations of animals, suggesting a mystical relationship between the animal and the observer. His work can be found locally at 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery in the Hydrostone Market, as well as professional offices, and personal collections around the world.
