Rebecca Cusack

Biography

Rebecca Cusack grew up playing at Rissers beach, reading at the Bridgewater Library, and exploring finger painting on the South Shore of Nova Scotia (Pijinuiskaq). You can currently find her in Halifax, (Kjipuktuk) surfing small waves, working in her studio, and taking too many books out from the library (when she isn’t working in the costume department of a television series) The more things change, the more things stay the same.

Her work is evocative of a life grounded in the natural world. She finds solace in spaces surrounded by trees, plants, places where you can feel the sun or mist on your skin. She strives to bring the sense peace, wonder, and play found at the ocean’s edge or in the contemplation of flowers to her art practice. Her inspirations include Tom Forrestal and Georgia O’Keefe.

Rebecca has created a career that is grounded in visual arts and craft with strong ties to the embodied experience. She studied fashion and textiles at NSCAD university, receiving a BFA in fashion and textiles in 2014. Her work is held in several private international collections. She currently works in costumes in film and television on shows like FROM, and THE TRADES when she isn’t in her studio.
