Artist Statement
As an experienced facilitator in art and cooking I am passionate to help people to discover a deep appreciation for food and at the same time find their personal expression as an artist. Over the past twenty years I have worked with children ages 4-16 offering workshops in book arts, collage, printmaking and baking. Projects that integrate a diverse use of art materials with educational themes of nutrition and food is particularly interesting to me. Sharing my experience as a collage artist and chef with school age students would be a perfect way to explore themes of food, identity and place. I have experience creating projects that allow students the opportunity to explore new materials while fostering their personal artistic expression. I would like to work with individual teachers to come up with projects that would suit the needs of their students. I am excited and believe that within the process of collaboration magic happens!
Biography
Art and food are my passion. Originally an abstract painter, my work as of late is moving into illustration. My choice materials include acrylic, gouache, watercolor paint, all kinds of paper, chalk and oil pastels. I am an artist who enjoys experimenting with materials. I use the techniques of printmaking, collage and drawing to produce rich textures. I am inspired by themes of place, food and home. As a dual artist/pastry chef I have a personal interest in integrating my art practice with food education.
