Artist Statement

This workshop will allow students to become more confident in their abilities to draw and/or paint from complex perspectives. I will show students a tool which has been used by famous artist throughout history such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh and even the ancient Egyptians. This tool is called the grid method and is used to transfer an image onto another surface. By using a grid with a 1:1 ratio I will show students how to transfer a reference photo onto paper or canvas. Once the student is finished the base sketch of this transfer they can simply erase or paint over the grid lines and work on their painting or drawing which will then be in perfect proportion. This workshop will help to train the eye of students to recognize simple shapes from complex perspectives which is necessary to create realistic images. By using the grid method students will be able to taking it one square at a time so that what would initially appear as daunting task is fun and rewarding.
