Maya Keleris
Artist Statement
My recent paintings are a look at contemporary sports fandom. Examining the sense of unity and belonging that can come with being a sports fan, but also the distance created when experiencing games primarily through a TV. I am exploring the shapes created through sports broadcasts presented on LED screens, using colour and saturation to question the tangibility and reality of these moments. Abstracting images of various crowds highlights the melding sense of unity as well as the digital separation.
