Marsha Koersvelt

Artist Statement

I work primarily in acrylic using a limited palette to create colour harmony throughout each piece. Variation in style is also something that comes naturally in my work. I don’t always attempt to document my subjects in exact realism, but rather, I try to express the qualities and energy of their individual personalities. I suppose you could call my style impressionistic realism if you want to give it a name. Regardless of style, my goal is to evoke emotion in the viewer and ask themselves what the story behind each painting is.

My creative process is deeply intuitive, often starting with a fleeting glimpse or an imagined scene that captivates my mind. At times I use bold strokes and other times carefully blending to bring these visions to life. There is a certain magic in this method, a sense of discovery that keeps my work fresh and exciting.

The ultimate reward for me is when someone connects with my art on a personal level. If my paintings can stir a memory or spark a feeling, then I feel I have succeeded.
I hope my art brings you joy and resonates with you.
