Laurie Publicover Mireau

Artist Statement

Laurie’s watercolors are striking works of tight realism and vivid color. Marine scenes and boats from Atlantic Canada are favorite subjects for her paintings. A native maritimer, she never tires of looking at the ocean and trying to capture its many moods, particularly the early morning stillness and reflections. She also paints street scenes and local tourist attractions. A specialist in watercolor, Laurie also works with oils or acrylics when painting larger pieces. She enjoys drawing, so another favorite medium is pen and ink, brightened with loose watercolor washes.

Laurie’s commissions include “portraits” of private homes, cottages and prized schooners and mural work. Many commissions are for out-of-province clients who send her photo reference material from which she develops original paintings.
