Artist Statement

I like to do programs and/or projects that go from cradle to grave. An example being to design a puppet theatre show, going through all of the aspects of designing a production from story creation to designing characters and sets, closing with performance. This concept can be populated with an unlimited variety of creative forms and methods, from term long programs to micro workshops. I like to try to tie into the current class curriculum and pull in history, science and applied engineering principles whenever I can. The key is to give students the flexibility to experiment and give life to imagination while working on a timeline in a team setting. The end goal being a hands on demonstration of the importance of art and creation as a practical application in everyday life and as a viable career choice.

Biography

I am a globally accomplished artist with a 25 year background in film production and design. My education includes certificates from OCAD, UWO and USC. After years spent working abroad I chose to make Nova Scotia my home in 2017. In 2018 I pooled all of my varied skills and experience together and opened an art workshop/ gallery, Stray Dog Art House, providing art workshops and open lab space for kids and adults. My personal philosophy as an artist and a teacher is that creativity has no boundaries and the possibilities for exploration is limitless.
