Kathy Richards

Artist Statement

Creativity has always been prevalent in my life, as has a great love and respect for life and the world that surrounds us. I am often in awe of nature and the intricate beauty she has created as well as by the man-made structures that make up our world. A lot of my inspiration is found within the areas where nature and man co-exist but I never limit my options. I enjoy painting many different subjects with various stories to tell.
I always approach each painting on an individual basis taking into consideration composition, colour, contrast, shadow and light. My work usually entails a lot of detail so I often challenge myself, toss aside most rules and go on instinct to achieve what I'm trying to convey.
