Kate Vasyliw

Artist Statement

From a feminist perspective my work examines themes of identity, societal expectations and self-imposed characteristics. My fascination with the darker aspects of human behaviour, impermanence and mortality are also explored using humour to reveal societal absurdities. Through ongoing exploration of various media, I select materials suitable to realize each project. The process is an important aspect of my practice, allowing each piece to develop in unexpected directions.
