Elisa Harley
Artist Statement
I paint from life. I love the feeling I get when I am lost in the subject. The physics of a connected world feels real when painting subjects of nature. I love to connect with animals most of all. I can enjoy the shape of their bodies and get into the colours and textures of creatures and plants that inhabit our planet.
I am exploring ways to see the subjects differently and to paint loose impressions that highlight the essence of the subject and the capriciousness of watercolours' properties.
Biography
Elisa was born and raised in rural Ontario near Georgian Bay. She was educated at York University, moved to Nova Scotia in the late 1990s to the South Shore. She now works out of her home in Musquodoboit Harbour.
Elisa loves curiosity and play. Music is a lifelong passion, as well as sketching from nature since childhood, Watercolour is her new muse. She loves playing with colour, watching the play of water, pigment and paper with the values of light and shadow. Elisa paints life and nature from a point of view that attempts to find intimacy with the subject and fresh ways of interaction. She has taken courses in NSCAD's Extended program, and studied post graduate animal behavior at University of Edinburgh.
