Artist Statement

My paintings spring from observation, imagination, obsession and photography. I prefer people as a subject because they have shaped this moment in history, for better or worse. Other artists tend to avoid them, at least in this region. The collage aspect plays with how much the eye trusts photography more than gesture, line or colour.

Biography

Doug Taylor was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1950. After a math degree and a decade as a radio deejay, he received his B.F.A. from the N.S. College of Art and Design in 1992. His works focus on urban landscapes, country fairs, sports events and portraiture. He has shown most recently at Mount St. Vincent and Secord galleries, in Halifax.
