Coleen M Davidson
Artist Statement
The source of my art is the coastal and fragile marine environment of rural Nova Scotia where I live. A lifetime practice of yoga and mediation is an essential preparation for my contemporary, abstracted, figurative art.
Color is important to me. I mix silk dyes and invent new colour combinations to express the softness, drama, movement and joy I feel. On volumes of silk and linen fabric I create with paint, collage, embroidery and hand stitching.
My art invites the viewer into a fleeting moment, to feel the movement of wind and water with me. I want to know others experience and often offer a way for the community to participate in my public installations.
My work is in private collections in Canada and Internationally.
