Angie Reid

Artist Statement

Angie explores themes of home and place in her work. Her latest pieces are centred around her family's cottage, and examine the rooted traditions that exist nowhere else.

"In the spring of 2020, my grandmother passed away and my family inherited a very meaningful piece of property. A summer cottage she purchased in the late 1960s on the north shore of Nova Scotia.

These works are based on the photographs I took there over the last eight years. While the subject matter is personally meaningful, the work is a celebration of the traditions and folklore that surround our sacred places, our beautiful summer days of the past and those yet to come, and what it means to inherit something truly important.

As an artist herself, my grandmother was one of my biggest influences and supporters, so it really is a love letter to her and to this place that she loved so much. I think we can all recognize when we've been given a truly important gift, and this place is that gift for me."
