Andrea (Andy) Pumphrey – Artist Andy Pump

Artist Statement

I have been interested in drawing since a young age. The process of translating a 3 dimensional world into two dimensions in one that I find fascinating. I work both in realism and fun anthromorphic characters. My goal with my drawings is to present a scene to the viewer in a manner that will make them feel like they are experiencing the moment the same way that I did when I was inspired to produce the work. I love to watch and observe the world around me, from the way in which a squirrel tilts its head when it hears a noise to the manner in which a child explores a piece of “treasure” they find along a sandy beach. In my art I invite the viewer to take that journey with me, to observe our delicate world and marvel at all of its small wonders.

Andrea (Andy) is an artist living in Antigonish, NS Canada. The bulk of her work consists of graphite drawings, acrylic painting, and mixed media pieces that combine 3D elements with a 2D image. Although she doesn't hold a formal Fine Arts degree she hesitates to call herself a 'self-taught' artist as she has learned so much from books, videos and workshops given by other artists. The common goal she strives for in most of her her work, is to produce something that will make the viewer smile. Her work can be found in private homes internationally, and in public institutions in Nova Scotia.
