AGLENNCO
Artist Statement
I make objects that are artifacts left behind from the future. They are made from materials we would not use for those objects in the present, despite having access to them. They are pinup calendars woven in chenille, cyanotype transit maps, risograph funeral cards, and embroidered portraits. I work to open up the possibility of the future and offer alternative imaginations about where we could head.
My work is visual narrative science fiction but rejects dystopia, utopia, and cyberspace. Instead, I marry science fiction with craft and make objects that are colorful with an attention to material and texture. I draw from the imagery, aesthetics, and mythology of American folklore. I’m tangling craft and technology until they can no longer be separated.
