Awar Obob
Artist Statement
With a history in DIY and punk music/ethos dating back to 2010, Awar Obob approaches art through a lens of abstract critique. Their work highlights Anuak and Black Nova Scotian culture while dealing with esoteric themes of isolation, poverty, community, and finding belonging in one's own body.
Biography
Awar Obob is a disabled Black Nova Scotian-South Sudanese Afro-Indigenous non-binary artist who firmly straddles the line between film and music in all aspects. Their poetry has been published and shown internationally, and other art mediums of theirs have been featured in HYPEBAE, WAYVES, THE FADER, YAHOO NEWS, PARLIAMENT HILL OF CANADA, CBC, CTV, MTV CANADA, and IMDB.
