Artist-caregivers: This residency is for YOU!

We know balancing caregiving and artistic practice is challenging. That’s why VANS in Residence at Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design is specifically for artist-caregivers—with real support to make it work.

What makes this different:

• Caregiver support that is specific to YOUR needs (child/respite care, housing, meal prep etc.)
• 4 weeks to focus on your practice & connect with community
• Studio access in beautiful Sydney, NS

Residency dates: March 1 – April 12, 2026 (4 weeks of your choice)

You’ll spend 60% of your residency time on your own work and 40% leading community workshops—a balance that honours both your practice and your community engagement.

The artist’s work can focus on research, development and/or the production of ongoing or new bodies of work.

A stipend of $2500 will be paid to the artist and studio space will be provided. Accommodations, if needed, will be provided in Sydney.

You must be a VANS member, live in NS and be a caregiver. (Caregiver of children, elders, chosen family)
