Freya Poirier

Artist Statement

My artwork is inspired by the vibrant beauty and quiet presence of the natural world. Through watercolor landscapes and bright, botanical paintings, I explore the colours and forms that shape the places I live and move through. Watercolor’s softness and unpredictability mirrors the way nature encourages patience, attention, and gratitude.

As a settler on this land, I approach my work with a sense of responsibility. My hope is to inspire feelings of care, respect, and connection toward our natural surroundings—reminding us that the places we love ask something of us in return.

Each painting is an invitation to pause, notice, and appreciate the world that sustains us.

Biography

Freya Poirier (she/her) is a painter and multidisciplinary artist based in Mi’kma’ki, where she has lived for the past nine years. Originally from Carp, Ontario, she moved to Halifax to study Interdisciplinary Design at NSCAD University and quickly fell in love with the province’s coastline, landscapes, and pace of life by the sea.

Freya has been devoted to watercolor for over fifteen years and now works intuitively across oils and acrylics. Her nature-rooted, expressive, and meditative style is inspired by the feelings evoked in local landscapes and the fascinating intersections between art and botanical science.

Alongside creating original paintings and prints—sold online and at local markets—Freya teaches watercolor to both adults and children, sharing her belief that creativity is a grounding force meant for everyone.
