Olivia L. Martin
Artist Statement
I am a graphic designer and illustrator working and living in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
In my studies at NSCAD University, I had exercised and expanded my talents in the fine arts, especially in charcoal on paper, and acrylic or oil on canvas. Afterwards, my focus shifted to the practical field of graphic design, studying at NSCC Ivany. My expertise then expanded into branding, print design, web design, and more.
In most of my work, personal or professional, I like to put a part of myself into it, reflecting my love of whimsy, wonder and playfulness.
Currently, I am a freelance graphic designer, with previous work with the Halifax Public Libraries, and Halifax's local film making industry.
Biography
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University, majoring in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History, and I have a diploma in Graphic Design from NSCC Ivany Campus.
My studies at NSCAD have provided an in-depth understanding of painting and drawing mediums, aesthetics, color theory, and the cultural context of art through my art history minor. Afterwards, my studies at NSCC’s Ivany Campus provided me with the skills and knowledge to operate Adobe programs, design and create HTML and CSS for websites, and use technical and industry standards to create graphic design products, such as logos, business cards, posters, publications, campaigns, etc.
I have also been rewarded for my technical and artistic skills. I had won the Dartmouth High School Art Graduate Award in 2015; I had received the Doris Evelyne Dyke Teasdale Scholarship in 2018. And recently, I had competed and won gold at the 2021 Nova Scotia Skills Competition in Graphic Design.
In my off-time, I enjoy illustrating, Netflixing, and baking.
