Fern Donovan

Artist Statement

In my art practice, the process often feels as important as the final result. I like exploring ways to visually capture my experience of the environment in which I exist. Whether I’m working from life or from a photo I’ve taken, I strive towards accuracy on an emotional level, regardless of how closely I’m following my reference or how much I’ve ignored it to suit my composition. My most common subjects are forests, whether as full scenes or as studies of close-up details, and animals.
