Describing his inspiration for the work on view, Castle explains:

Aside from the fact that I am totally addicted to art, I have analysed myself as being on the far end of the spectrum of an undiagnosed art malady, which thus far, there is no prescribed cure. The symptoms, and there are many, include the uncontrollable urge to veer into joyful flights of pure fancy which cause me to leap out of the proverbial box, so to speak, into another place where the dance “gambol” and the frolic begins. I never know were these urges will end up. Like the common cold, the only cure for this condition I have found is to let it run its course. These twelve pieces are the result of some of my infrequent “GAMBOL” episodes.

Gary Castle has been a professional photographer/artist since 1968. Graduating with a diploma in Photographic Theory in 1967, he began his photographic career at Dalhousie University as a bio-medical photographer until 1981 when he opened his own custom photo-service lab. He has had numerous one-man shows of his photographic images and his photos have been published extensively in journals and books. His painting/ photo collage works have been included in many group exhibits and, along with his photographs, are in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Art Bank of Nova Scotia as well as private collections.
